1. Insert the drive into a USB port on your computer.
  2. You may see a notification pop up in the lower right identifying the Removable Drive and prompting you to select an action.  Click on the notification and select “Open Folder to view files/File Explorer.” This will launch the File Explorer and you will view the contents of the flash drive
  3. If the notification does not come up, Windows should automatically open the flash drive in File Explorer to view the contents.
  4. If neither of these actions occurs, right-click on the Start icon and left-click on “File Explorer,” then double-click on the flash drive icon to view the contents
  5. Copy all the files from the drive onto your desktop or a network folder so that you have a backup of the files (reformatting erases the drive)
  6. In the panel or menu on the left, Right-click on the Removable Drive icon  and left-click on “Format”

  7. Under "file system" choose “FAT32”
  8. If the “Quick Format” option is not checked, the reformatting process could take several minutes. Click on “Start”
  9. When the format process is completed, click on “OK”
  10. Click on “Close” to complete the process
  11. To properly remove the flash drive, locate Hardware and Media icon in the System Tray/Notification area on the lower right of your computer screen, right-click on the icon, then left-click on “Eject… [name of drive]”
  12. You will see a “Safe To Remove Hardware” notification pop up. Remove the flash drive from your computer.
